Our 2001 circular
Canalling: Copperkins was the first boat through Scout Tunnel from Stalybridge on the Huddersfield Narrow since 1948 – with Foot and Mouth disruption happened to be there on opening day in April. Addicted to the ‘new’ canal, we had Odyssey all the way to Huddersfield in May - 3 miles through Standedge Tunnel behind the British Waterways electric tug.

"Waterworld" still being repeated on Sky and producing "haven't we seen your hat (or bum) on the tele?- Joined Litchfield and Hatherton canal trust - partly because photo of Copperkins and Elaine’s hat appeared on their leaflet - taken on the day of the Waterworld filming Just the nine weeks canalling this year. Christmas 2001 on Odyssey, ice and canal stoppages permitting.

Peter: Survived another year of http://www.learndirect.co.uk - lots of London meetings so have been carrying a laptop around - contributes to doing too many hours in front of a screen - but occasionally add things to http://www.peterscott.learndirect.net.

A bad-computery year - from laptop hard disk failure had to rescue 1,728 digital pictures taken with new digital camera - 2000 Xmas present - having used laptop because home machine went on the blink. Next week’s new machine will make nine PCs in the house.

Another SUGCR (Southampton University bellringers) dinner as President, and 2002 is my retirement year, for that job at least.

Physiotherapist prescribed lots of waggling about of dicey knee - and unrelated giving-up of nibbling-between-meals lost 30lbs - had to invest in a range of belts to prevent waistbands getting too close to aforementioned knee.

Elaine: Now works for Severn Trent in Derby theoretically only 3 days per week. Eighteen months and not yet missed a 7am train - but Virgin has missed us fairly often - trip to the office from Derby station needs a taxi which adds to the complications.

Highlight, as usual, emptying all the elsans at the Milton Keynes (as in concrete cows) IWA rally. Photos of this in two waterways magazines - one rivalled a pinhead for size. Still doing yoga, and tatting.

Iain: Drinking, ringing, drinking, work, drinking, ringing, drinking, - with an emphasis on the drinking he says. Students are an expensive luxury - thirsty students even more so. Bigger third year flat in Bristol this year. Seems to have taken up peal ringing (and drinking) with a new seriousness having spent the summer worrying about exams.

Ringing: continued. Try this touch of Bob Minor - 59changes - PSPP(P): the trick is the Grandsire start.
