Peter and Elaine's Christmas Greetings 2012
Canalling: 125 days afloat and 1500 miles. Went to London to see the Queen and got a bit wet: lots of people waved at us on Fulbourne on the Thames in the Diamond Jubilee Pageant. The formation-boating needed practice (some sunny, all fun), preparation, pointing, briefing, mustering and some earlier research. The return-to-base was harder, though. Much entertaining bureaucracy for all that, and also to reach Liverpool to share the docks with some compan( bigger and) Tall Ships. Drought in the spring (fewer Historic Boats) and flood for the rest of the year brought their entertaining moments. Ending with investing some pennies in Copperkins' repaint.

Elaine: Still busy as Tower Captain and Chairman of WestRiding IWA organising a boat gathering, looking-in at Skipton (etc). Managed two days more training - so not quite retired - and also talks on sewers to local groups. Which all left even less time for making things than when at work: still not got the spinning wheel out!. Highlights were steering Fulbourne below the Thames Barrier and then from West India dock to Brentford. No bus pass yet despite getting to 60.

Peter: A boaters' national election - eliminated at the 17th count, then sitting looking at three interviewers - reminded why work was a bad idea - and was more successful in volunteering to help the new Canal and River Trust to run our waterways; there's beginnings of a more open culture: Bingley, Bulholme, Bradley, StanleyFerry and the launch event included a short boat trip!. Still an IWA trustee. London visits had to include the Cable Cars, and Oop North there's the Ulverston Canal and ConistonWater. The Post Office has stopped using red rubber bands - but with all those meetings, there's a backlog to complete-the-ball.

Ringing: Highlight was two quarter peals conducted by one of our Ranmoor ringers whom we taught to handle a bell, with another ringing their first quarter . We were privileged to ring two quarters in memory of Peter Else. We still need more ringers, even after our Olympic ringing, and then maybe less need of 89 PB Doubles with Grandsire start: bppbpbpp(p). Still doing Southampton University guild annual dinners - just the 41 now.

Iain: Still bicycling, when not falling off.
