Peter and Elaine's Christmas Greetings 2014
Alastair, father to Elaine John and Anne, died in February, after a long period of declining health. He is survived by Peggy; they were married for over 63 years. Some pictures of Alastair here and of a family remembrance in Birkenhead in April.

Our Cruise Ship Lord of the Glens on the Caledonian Canal
Canalling: Our 112 days afloat and 1390 miles on twelve boats included seven weeks boating (via Birmingham, ShropshireUnion, Wigan and Burnley) to Sheffield around the Yorkshire Canals and returning to the Midlands via Bugsworth. In October we were pampered on the cruiseship Lord of the Glens on the Caledonian Canal, including Loch Ness, to celebrate our fortieth wedding anniversary. We introduced nbSapphire to handspikes ( up and down), to repainting and a new CRT engineer to the inside of tunnels. Then there was a bit of winter-lock-winding and some rocking and more rocking and reflecting on it all.

Old-car : forced an upgrade by grinding to a halt inside a yellow-box-junction at 2.15am. Chimney : needed upgraded pot for new gas fire
Elaine: Still busy as Ranmoor Tower Captain and Chairman of WestRiding IWA - lots of organising-of-people-to-do-things, helping a lockkeeper , helping CRT engineering and being chaperoned through Standedge Tunnel ... Maybe the 'next-year' we are always saying the spinning wheel can spin could be next year! - the year of the Bus Pass!. Tatting continues on all those journeys-to-meetings.

Peter: Excellent to catch-up with family, and the 29-cousins' news at Barry's barbecue in May (Thanks Barry). Still an IWA trustee (we are worrying about the closure on the River Derwent) and on CRT NorthEast's Partnership. More CRT good works here, here, here, balanced by some friendliness and trees at Brighouse preventing towing a boat. Still catching-up with pre-2001 photographs; five mins per slide and still only nine thousand more to go - which is the same number as last year!.

Ringing: Ranmoor's teaching technology still fun with nine bell-cameras to fiddle with the switches for, simulator, wall-screen; still lots of learners; up to twenty at practice. Ranmoor Dinner, Southampton University Guild's and the . Lots of steps to climb. Sometimes ring with Cathedral ringers. Training courses used some weekends. Unusually, wrote to Ringing World about the new peal rules allowing 5040 PlainBobDoubles on the front5 and a call change after each 120 on the back 5. For 5-bell variety this 240 of Grandsire is fun: (sppspbppbpsb)*2. That's my compositions for the year: you read them here first!

Iain joined us from Warrington for an happy afernoon working Wigan Locks in the rain: there's dedication to parents!.
