We were unintentionally dominated by our loft extension. Planners helpfully agreed that our front-facing dormer, the first on any of the similar houses in our Close, was an improvement on the existing flat-roof. |
Then our estimated 12-week building project started to drift
with the scaffolders who were building a super-hat
enclosing the whole roof; but they only worked on Thursdays, ...
... helping the project to stretch into week 31, and counting. ............... |
We are hopefully in sight of completion and removal of the scaffolding. Inside the new roof there are some interesting new spaces ... New room looking towards the party wall. |
... and the staircase with its new arched window, all over current kitchen and which was previously fresh air ... |

Biobank retrospectively confirmed that we had both succumbed to the Accursed Virus in 2020, and hence, or otherwise, it was Peter's turn this year to faint in the bathroom and thence to hospital for four days, just as the bulding project was about to start. The central heating boiler gave up in sympathy during the same weekend. |
Ringing has stuttered into a summer restart,
and that re-occupies Tuesday evening and Sunday morning,
and some handbells in Leeds once each fortnight.
Elaine does armchair-internet electronic handbell ringing
with others on Scottish islands and elsewhere,
and continues as Convener of the Yorkshire Association Education Committee.
We had another Zoomed Central Council of Church Bellringers annual meeting, and it's a third attempt to meet in Nottingham in 2022. Our potential fiftieth consecutive Southampton University ringing dinner also morphed into a Zoom event, which we think doesn't count in the sequence, so here's to an omicron-free fiftieth in February ... |

Old waterway pictures continued to occupy a couple of hours each day on a message-board as a 'Tonic'. From New Zealand, at the beginning of Borislock, Don and Val suggested " In this time of incalculable gloom ... cheer [us] up by posting ... that lovely dawn photo... Spring in Britain is beautifully photogenic, and as this goes on, so is summer, and then autumn, and winter. ... " and after mid-March we were around the year for a second time: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, ... |
Cartrips have each had a canal-visit for some 2021 Tonic pictures. These included some extended-family trips: to Bedford for Sarah and Rob's wedding, to Cromer for a holiday cottage and an afternoon on a Broads steam-launch, and to Scunthorpe where Elaine and Iain drove a retired-Pacer train around the steelworks network. |
|
There were two canal trips on Copperkins, the second of which needed fitting-in with daily visits home to the building project, by which time we had a temporary internal door to separate our living area from the building-site. Also managed an afternoon aboard Fulbourne, on the way to having a new bottom-plate. |
We Zoom-with-Iain most days; he works-from-home in
Warrington, to where he and eeyore are heading.
