2025 ...

Our picture this year is Elaine's artwork of a bottle. Printed card page2 page3 page4

Version 15(31Dec2025) ...new versions possible until Twelfth Night.

Viewing instructions this year. It's mainly a selection from our 29,000 photos from 2025. A few are around the text, and a few more in a clump near the end; each of these is clickable and leads to a bigger version of the same picture. Underlined words, usually lead to a single picture: and some lead to a Web-Resource: in either case; see, enjoy, press the browser back button.

Sometimes it's an album of a dozen pictures or more: maybe best to expand the top-right drop-down menu - the three vertical dots - then click the "Slideshow" option. Watch until bored. Return with the browser back button.

Sometimes it's a video from youtube: press the arrow in t'middle of screen to start and the browser back button to return. There is a full-screen option, probably at bottom right of the small picture, and Esc to return to smaller picture. Youtube would like you to watch more videos: their choice depends on your previous viewing, not ours.

There's an extract, including almost all of the 2025 pictures here, with some text details of where the picture was taken. Viewing them singularly may show some text with extra detail. Viewing on a phone is different. ...

A year with more-than-usual trips around English hotels and cottages.

...starting with seven nights in Morecambe in January to celebrate the hundredth birthday of Peggy, mother to Elaine. We arose early on The-Day to ring a handbell peal, before the main celebrations.
Peggy and Charles
Aunty Pat Sadly Pat died aged 91, the last survivor of the Generation-of-19: the children+spouses of Kitty, paternal grandmother to Peter. Pat's funeral was in King's Lynn in February, and 12 (of the-29) Scott-cousins - the Next Generation - were able to be there.
From the night in King's Lynn, we continued south to two nights in Cambridge, where we came upon some bellringing recruitment at St Clement's (website), as well as the usual delights of the River, its punts and lock.

Then four more nights in Southampton (with big and small boats) for the 70th anniversary (our 53rd) Southampton University dinner with the student bellringers - There Were Speeches and Handbells - and a walk around the campus.

Then two nights in Telford for a visit to the Ironbridge Gorge museums including the canals at Blists Hill, Eyton Lock and Longdon-on-Tern aqueduct.

SUGCR

StratfordUponAvon In March there were two nights in York to present a bellringing course for the Association of Ringing Teachers. In April, there were two in Manchester to do a talk about Illustrious Namesake - Sir Peter Scott.

Later, 11 nights over Easter on Copperkins (with new worktop) around Birmingham including a visit to the Coffin Works (much recommended!). Two more in May as a base for train-to-London and CanalWay Cavalcade at LittleVenice. and another one in June as a base for a commercial afternoon-tea trip into Froghall Tunnel for 51st wedding anniversary and a brief guest-trip on Fulbourne at the Braunston Historic Boat Show. Then two nights as a base for the 75th anniversary of the first IWA national rally at Market Harborough. Another fortnight in July to Stratford on Copperkins, including its aqueducts, avoiding worst of the waterway drought-closures.
Elaine had three nights on Loch Lomond for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in August (including a Kelpies visit) followed by (both of us and Iain) in Borwick (Lancashire), near to the canal, to tutor a handbell course, ... FradleyJunc closure
... and five more nights on Copperkins for a leisurely trip just before the extensive water-shortage closures, ending at ClayMills Pumping Station openday.

Two nights in St Ives (Cambridgeshire) in October for a lace exhibition then seven on the Wirrall for a Furniss-family gathering, including Gladstone's Library, Flint Castle and Ellesmere Port Boat Museum.

Four nights in London Docklands visiting Excels engineering exhibitions and Royal Observatory, based at a quiet hotel (except being just off the runway of London City Airport), a Clipper trip and a nostalgic visit to Suttons Lane.

Leaving almost ten months at home: ...

Time for a couple of visits to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, to Knaresborough, Knostrop, Worcester, Chichester, Lymm, Chester, West Kirby, Newark ...
Elaine is still a library volunteer; continued an Art course and had (artwork of a) bottle in local exhibition. Started learning British Sign Language. Had the Tatting archive bound. Still zooms daily with Peggy to complete all the Yorkshire Post's Saturday crosswords. Still finds leaks in the roads.

Peter continued occasional this-day Tonic pictures after completing five years since the start of the project to cheer up canallers during the accursed-virus, using daily pictures from the half-million in the archive. Now more time for contributing Quote Of The Day to CanalplanAC: at least one from each book on the bookshelf.

Locally marvelled at signage (What To Do About It?), at the roadworks, and at the peas, uncovered and restored after fifty years under a billboard. On a local Sheffield bus here passes this thought by the busstop. Local canal now has a twirly boat (as an Alex Chinneck art installation). Local postboxes had a strange, topping year. Binfluencing setback when our green bin was nicked, hence more threes painted.

Gardening - never our strong point - cobbled together a presentation for Anne's (sister to Elaine) Gardening Club when short of a speaker. Included the advantages of rain gardens, like this one recently built in Sheffield shopping centre, wit (unrelated) daleks, which want money for something (??). and Elaine did another on sewers to a local church group - who said they enjoyed it ...

pe2023-Postbox
pe202-Rotherhamclosed Theatres(etc): to Buxton Opera House for a professional production of Iolanthe, and Sheffield amateur productions of Mikado and Importance of Being Earnest, and three concerts during the year. A vacant shop for BBC's Shipping Forecast commemoration.

Ringing - continue as part of the Ranmoor band, teaching some new ringers; we had a band outing in November to some local towers. Our local band contributed to the weekend of the Central Council (national) meeting, (four hours' talking) hosted at Niagara centre in Sheffield to commemorate 150 years of the Yorkshire Association. Included some Boomwhackers in a local course. Two separate small handbell groups meet regularly at our house and in Leeds. Go Stedman Triples.

Iain still living/working in Warrington (and working out how to send own cards one year). Still rings more Quarter Peals than we do, both handbells and towerbells: Elaine's Performances; Peter's Performances

Inflation measure: compare our butcher's window from last year to this.
